But what if objects also impose their meaning on us? It’s a two-way street. We impose meaning on objects, or we think we do. This is a novel about objects and their people, and people and their objects. Yes, you read that correctly: The Book is a major character. Finally, there’s the Book, which just wants to be written and read. Her collected objects speak to her, too, just in a different way. His mother is Annabelle, who holds onto objects desperately and becomes a hoarder. Is that true? Maybe, or perhaps he’s simply a sensitive soul who can channel the objects around him and give them voice. He is labelled as having schizoaffective disorder. We’re introduced to three major characters: First, there’s Benny Oh, a teen who has lost his father in a tragic accident and begins to hear objects speaking to him. The Book of Form and Emptiness, her most recent novel, has been nominated for the 2022 Women’s Prize for Fiction. ![]() The story was more about, shocking (sarcasm) of finding out a family secret that would had been buried along with their mother had Keira and her husband not decided to go on a trip to Norway, and who then needed her birth certificate to apply for a passport. ![]() And wouldn't you know it, turns out someone ended up bringing a cake, so the boys were rewarded in the end. The actual party was a couple of pages of nothing too exciting, except for two little spoiled boys thinking it was a birthday party, and whining because there wasn't a cake with candles to blow out. ![]() There was lots of writing leading up to the party, like locating photographs from the deceased mother's home to be made into books for everyone, and all the food preparation for the party. ![]() Actually very little is about the family reunion party. The name of the book is "Reunion", but it's not really about the family reunion. Why complete a book if I don't like it? Because I need to finish a book I start, always. It was more like because I skipped paragraphs, and basically then skimmed over the rest. This one took me 2 days, and it wasn't because I couldn't put it down. ![]() It usually takes me a week to read a book. Gosh, this one was really bad! So bad I can't even fathom passing it along to my sister to read, who I pass along all my books once I'm done. ![]() ![]() ![]() When his new Toothpick Man video looks like it belongs in the trashcan he's trying to use for the Hatebot 3000 costume, Marcus starts to despair. mainly because it's a hot mess, but they think he's keeping money from them. She's managed to navigate social media really well, and even has collaborated with friends, who are angry with Marcus because he is not including them on his channel. When the two are interviewed on a talk show, Marcus makes a terrible mess of it, showing up in a moldy shirt, throwing up backstage, and arguing with Sierra in a way that makes him look particularly foolish. It seems easy for Sierra, who has a lot of good ideas about the quality of the videos and the value of the content. This ends up being harder than he imagines. His friends keep encouraging him to post things, but without Sierra's help, he struggles to develop content, although this doesn't stop him from trying to get 1,000 followers so that he can monetize his account.
